About Us
The Globe Theatre is a multi-use facility located in the historic International Lounge at Gander Airport.
The Globe Theatre borrows its name from the original World War II era cinema at the Royal Canadian Air Force side of the Gander Airbase. The Town of Gander has been without a first-run movie theatre since the closure of the Fraser Mall Cinema in 2007.
The Globe is located inside Gander Airport’s famed mid-modernist international lounge. Featuring state-of-the-art surround sound and laser projection, a twenty-foot screen that creates a unique and intimate atmosphere allowing a more personal viewing experience. Equipped with 75 seats offering VIP seating for each guest. Wheelchair accessibility is available in 2 seating stalls.
Union East + Drinks provide concessions, and the theatre is fully licensed to allow adult guests to enjoy beer, wine, and spirits. Free patron parking is available in the adjacent Union East parking lot.
The theatre was designed to help Gander Airport tells its stories as part of the interpretive strategy after a $2.5M lounge restoration completed in early 2023. Since opening in the Summer of 2022, the lounge has hosted thousands of unique visitors, seasonal tour groups, concerts, trade shows, galas and more year-round.
The cinematic portion of the theatre is managed and operated by the International Lounge Foundation (ILF.) The ILF is a volunteer-led not-for-profit organization whose mission is to conserve, curate and celebrate Gander Airport’s built and cultural heritage. All proceeds generated from ticket sales will be reinvested in heritage programming, interpretation, and restoration.
